Today I am being interviewed by Denise Griffitts on BlogTalkRadio. Denise specifically asked me to address how to create a fitness program that can be easily fit into a busy professional’s life.

In today’s interview we will be discussing why it is so very important to add daily fitness routines to our lives in order to combat stress (economy driven), dipping energy levels which is very important to people who spend the bulk of their working hours in front of a computer screen, and of course overall health which affects every single thing you do every single day! If you have lost your job, and therefore your health insurance if it was provided by your employer, there has never been a better motivator to take charge of your own health and fitness. If you are still employed, but are experiencing a constant low-level dread about the next round of layoffs, this is a critical time to create new fitness habits that make you feel more stable emotionally and physically.

In order to help you make your health and fitness a financial priority we have created a personal budget spreadsheet that will allow you to determine just where you are financially and where you can fit in a gym membership for yourself and your family.

#1 — Be Willing to Make Your Health a Priority

If you haven’t been exercising it is not because you are too busy, or you don’t have the $1 or so a day that it would cost you to join a fitness club. Those are just excuses that are hiding the real reason why your health and fitness is not a PRIORITY for you.

Make it your priority by asking yourself these questions?

  1. What will happen to my body if I don’t start exercising?
  2. What will be the results of continuing to eat the way I do?
  3. What evidence is there in my life (relationships, work quality, motivation, energy levels, stress levels, finances) that my health habits have a direct impact on what is important in my life?

#2 — What do you intend to do about it? Do you have a plan?

  1. Evaluate where you are currently health wise, stress wise, financially.
  2. Set a goal.
  3. Develop a realistic timeline.
  4. Get a professional plan.

3 Week Summer Camps For Kids Ages 7 - 13

The focus wil be on keeping kid boot campers active and healthy during the summer school break through a wide variety of sports and games. Special attentiionwill be placed on learning the various skills of a particular sport, and then incorporating the practiced skills into a game setting.

Daily fitness will involve building on one’s coordination, balance, agility, strengyh, and overall movement adequacy. Participation in group activities will help to develop individual creativity and kis will learn to work effectively and acomplish tasks through the use of teamwork.

All 4 Sports and Fitness Gym in West Islip, NY will host their annual European Handball Tournament on Super Bowl Sunday. You are invited to register a team of 5 players in advance, or register individually to be assigned to a team. This event is free, so please join us for some great interaction and fun. You can spend about three hours with us and then head home feeling energized for the Super Bowl events that you have planned with family and friends.

So just what is European Handball? European Handball (also known as team handball, field handball, European handball, or Olympic handball) is a team sport where two teams of seven players each (six players and a goalkeeper) pass and bounce a ball trying to throw it in the goal of the opposing team.

The game has a goal similar to but smaller than the one in association football, though as the name implies, the basic method of handling the ball involves the players’ hands rather than their feet. The game has been played internationally since the 1920s.

The importance of physical activity to the health of American’s (and citizens of other developed countries) has been researched for many years.  There is strong scientific evidence that indicates that even mild exercise and physical activity among adults and seniors lowers the risk of early death, heart disease, stroke and diabetes. It also lowers the risk of high blood pressure and colon and breast cancers.

In children and adolescents, the benefits of physical activity include raising self-esteem. Fun physical activities allow children to exercise without even knowing that they are exercising and there are plenty of activates suited for children’s young systems, which like to go very fast for a very short amount of time, rest and go again.  Just watch children at play to verify the veracity of this observation. You can get winded just watching them.

Spring will be here soon and there are so many activities that you can do outdoors as a family that are not expensive or that require a lot of bulky and difficult to store exercise equipment.  Consider the following as toys rather then exercise equipment and have fun with your family!

  • Balls for baseball, football, tennis, soccer, etc.
  • Frisbees
  • Jump ropes
  • Kites
  • Monkey bars
  • Rope swings or ladders
  • Sand boxes
  • Skates
  • Sprinklers
  • Swing sets
  • Wading pools

I’m willing to bet that there are some very enjoyable “toys” that I have left off of this list and would like to hear from you about the physical activities that you and your family do together to stay fit and strong.

Life has really been too good to be true….

We are enjoying the new Group Personal Training Sessions, members are loving the new colors in the gym, the holidays are upon us, and to top it all off my girlfriend threw me an incredible Surprise Birthday Party on Friday night!!

I had probably one of the best weeks of my life….

It was a great party, great food, and one of our Boot Campers, Laura Martin’s husband was actually the DJ at the party…

It was very cool that someone in our boot camp family did the party, especially someone with such dedication to the community!! Her husband, Peter Martin is also running for WI Fire Commissioner tomorrow….

Tomorrow we will be spending Thanksgiving  with family and friends.  We will be eating plenty of delicious and lovingly prepared food and very likely watching hours of football.  But beyond that, Thanksgiving is also a time to recall that life is best lived when done in a state of gratitude.  It is also a time to make sure that our customers, clients, employees and vendors know how very important they are to us and how much we appreciate them.  This is indeed a time for thankfulness and we thank each and every one of you for going along on this incredible journey with us.

I recently wrote about the free group personal training that we are offering at our gym in West Islip, NY.  My thinking was that It’s time for me to start giving 150% to helping people train the right way.  The response to this offer has been incredible and validates my thinking that people really do worry about their health and fitness and really do want to do something, anything, to get and stay healthy and vibrant.

About two years ago my friend Allan Boshell’s wife Patty was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.  She only survived 3 months after her diagnosis and left life at the much too young age of 49. 

After Patty passed away, Allan created a foundation in her name, The Patty Boshell Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.  Their affiliation with the Pancreatic Cancer Action network allows them to use 100% of the money raised from events and benefits to advance the foundations fight against this type of cancer.  Incredibly, over the last two years the Patty Boshell Pancreatic Cancer Foundation has been able to pledge $100,000 for research grants in 2008 and 2009.

Did you know that purple is the color for pancreatic cancer awareness? The U.S. Congress has declared November Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.

This weekend I am attending the ‘Passion in Purple’ benefit for The Patty Boshell Pancreatic Cancer Foundation in Boca Raton and will write more about it when I return to my office.
